Welcome to the Outdoor Range page of the Lone Butte Fish and Wildlife!
Our ranges are very multipurpose facilities that provide shooting opportunities to club members and guests. Please See the Bay Specific Descriptions for more Info.
Bay 1 - Cowboy Action Bay
Allowed Firearms - Pistol and Rifle (lead Bullets only) Shotgun. Targets can consist of Target Stands(Paper), Clays, and Steel.
Bay 2 - Universal Bay (CQB)
Allowed Firearms - Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun. Targets can consist of Target Stands(Paper), Clays, and Steel. This Bay is about to undergo a major makeover including taking it out to 100 yards and a new building and outhouse.
Bay 3 - Rifle Bay
Allowed Firearms - Rifles Only NO SHOTGUNS PERIOD!. Targets can consist of Target Stands(Paper), and Steel Hangers only, DO NOT SHOOT STEEL WITH MAGNUM CARTRIDGES!
Bay 4 - Universal Bay
Allowed Firearms - Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun. Targets can consist of Target Stands(Paper). NO STEEL ON THIS BAY!
Bay 5 - Rimfire Bay
Allowed Firearms - 22 Rimfire Pistol, 22 Rimfire Rifle(Does Not Include 17HMR). Targets can consist of Target Stands(Paper), and Light Steel. Shooting Heavy Steel with Rimfire Cartridges will cause dangerour ricochets.
Bay 6 - Pistol Bay
Allowed Firearms - Pistol and Pistol Caliber Carbine Rifle Only. Targets can consist of Target Stands(Paper) and Steel. NO RIMFIRE ON THIS BAY! DO NOT REMOVE STEEL FROM THIS BAY!
Bay 7 - IPSC Bay
Allowed Firearms - Pistol and Pistol Caliber Carbine Rifle Only. Targets can consist of Target Stands(Paper) and Steel. NO RIMFIRE ON THIS BAY! DO NOT REMOVE STEEL FROM THIS BAY! DO NOT REMOVED PROPS FROM THIS BAY!
Bay 8 - Trap
Allowed Firearms - SHOTGUN ONLY! There are manually operated throwers for use when a practice is not in progress. Automatic throwers are only accessible during scheduled practices
DO
Clean up after yourself. Police your brass and any target stands and targets you put out, you bring them back in.
DON'T
Shoot stationary target stands with shotguns, Use the moveable target stands for signting in slugs and patterning.
DO
Wear your safety equipment (eyes and ears) whenever on or near the firing line
DON'T
Move Steel from Bay to Bay or shoot steel with Magnum or High Powered Cartridges.
DO
Heed all signage at the Range
DON'T
Shoot at Rocks, or random objects on the ground. Do not place objects on cross bars of target stands.
DO
Pay attention to everyone else around you. You are not only responsible for your safety but also for those around you.
DON'T
Damage Range Property and if something gets damaged DO report it.
DO
Follow all Posted Range Rules and Procedures
All target stands and steel are the property of the Lone Butte Practical Shooters and as such be used as follows:
- There is a difference between rifle steel(1/2") and pistol steel(3/8"), do not use rifles on pistol steel!
- DO NOT MOVE STEEL FROM ONE BAY TO ANOTHER!
- Do not shoot steel closer than 10 meters, there is a definite danger of ricochet!
- do not shoot steel targets with high powered or magnum handgun rounds such as; 357mag, 44mag, 500 etc.) special rounds are okay such as 38special or 44 special
- Do not staple targets to; posts or cross bars of permanent target stands.
- use target stands provided used cardboard targets are usually available at bay 6 for every ones use to tape your targets to.
- provide your own stapler and tape
- clean up after yourself, this means bring back targets and portable target stands.
The steel and target stands are left at the range for people to use, if equipment becomes damaged, we have to repair or replace it or it simply goes away. Replacement or repair costs the club money we then cannot spend on other things and if equipment goes away then that is less fun for everyone.
